I just posted “Roar at the Heart of the World” under the Short Stories menu.  It takes place in Kenya.  Writers get told, “Write what you know.”  I find that strange advice.  I want to write what I don’t know, so I can explore something new that interests me.  I did a lot of research to get the people, plants, animals and terrain right.  An editor who’d read it assumed I had been to Kenya, but I haven’t been anywhere on the African continent.  Watch for the follow-up to this story “Sleep-waker,” which I will post soon.

I posted my story “Through the Wall to Eggshell Lake” under the Short Story menu.  When I started writing it, I thought I knew where it was going, but the characters took me somewhere else.
